It is legal for your employer to decide they want the employees to start paying for benefits. However they must give you proper notice (I would think at least 30 days). Typically this decision would be made and would become effective at the begining of a plan year.

COBRA is the continuation of your coverage if you term. Did you terminate employment after that date? Then yes you would be 100% responsible for your insurance if you chose to continue coverage.

That doesn't seem the issue here though. Go to HR or check the IRS website. Something doesn't seem right.

In my opinion that is a bad business practice but there is nothing illegal about it. Employers are not obligated to pay anything towards your premium nor is there a law concerning notification when they change the procedures.

In my perspective which is a bad commercial operation use though there is zero bootleg about it. Employers have been not thankful to compensate anything towards your reward nor is there a law connected with presentation when they shift a procedures.

i'm not really that familiar of laws but i think it depends on the insurace rules especially if it is managed by a big business transaction.
i can't say its illegal but its not a good practice at all, it causes misunderstandings.
